i don't want to be surrounded by lazy people

in last sunday's sermon, i talked about how Daniel (Old Testament) had a disciplined prayer life. i challenged our congregation by saying, "i don't want to be surrounded by lazy & undisciplined people, because that will make me lazy & undisciplined." this week my wife's been using that same line on me. i have to be careful of what i preach, because my wife is a pretty good listener.

i included a picture of a sloth. the animal is both disgusting & cute at the same time.

my favorite korean restaurant in L.A.

Honey Pig Restaurant (gool dae-ji) has really good pork belly bbq (sam gyup sal). it's the best i've had here in the states. you can see the quality of the cuts in this picture. you gotta zoom in & see the close-up. you can find more information on yelp.com.

i love that phrase: pork belly bbq

you are what you eat

wild at heart

over the past few years i heard many people praising this book, but i also heard many people criticizing this book. i was surprised at how much "buzz" this book was able to create. i finally got around to reading it myself. to be honest it would be easy to criticize this book & even poke fun at it, but i am trying not to be a "hater".

i enjoyed the book because it forced me to think about a topic that i don't usually think about. this book discusses what it means to be a man.

in the last chapter John Eldredge quotes another author (Gil Bailie) who shared a piece of advice given to him by a spiritual mentor:

Don't ask what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive.

that was a great quotation which made me think about my own life (or lack there of). i am praying that God would make me a person who has truly come alive because of the One i am serving.

attention serious coffee drinkers!!!

i have an announcement. i recently got a coffee bean roaster. it allows me to roast my own coffee beans at home. green (unroasted) coffee beans are about half the price of roasted beans. green beans stay fresh for about 1-2 years. & the coffee that i've been making at home tastes really good, much better than starbucks & even peets. i got my roaster & beans from sweetmarias.com.

i'm surprised that more people do not roast their own beans. i guess it's because the large coffee companies are making so much money off of us paying them to roast our beans?

short & nerdy asian guy

a few weeks ago, suhee & i went down to L.A. to spend some time w/my parents. at our hotel, they were filming an nbc tv show called "heroes". i took a picture of one of the main characters (hiro nakamura, played by masi oka) filming a scene. during my time at the hotel, several people approached me thinking that i was that actor. in fact one of the staff from universal studios came up to me & said, "good morning, you look so different without your hair". i politely told her that i wasn't who she thought i was.

in the tv show, this character (hiro) is portrayed as a short & nerdy asian guy w/a thick japanese accent. those incidents of mistaken identity reminded me that when people look at me all they see a short & nerdy asian guy who probably has a thick accent.

the one year Bible

in summary: i am a fan of the one year Bible!!!

i have read the entire Bible several times, but always according to my own pace & reading schedule. i have seen many Bible reading charts & plans, but i always dismissed them as childish. why would i want someone else to dictate my daily Bible reading schedule & personal time with God?

for the year 2007, i made a resolution to try the one year Bible. & so far it's been great. i'm using the one year Bible published by Tyndale House (picture included). for each day there is a portion of the old testament, new testament, psalms, & proverbs. i have to admit, i am really enjoying the sheer convenience of having the Bible cut-up & arranged into these daily readings.

side note: to read the Bible in one year takes about 15 minutes a day, or 3.25 chapters a day
